Change

New Blog coming soon!

They say if you try quitting a habit enough times, it will eventually stick. I love blogging, but I REALLY want to quit this blog.
I can't quit you!
Yes, we can.
I've rounded a bend in my life and I have different priorities, as far as time goes. Priorities are as follows: learn more about sailing a particularly beautiful 30' sloop (maintenance, celestial nav, ssb, general nav), prepare for the move to Mexico (practice spanish, research resources), make money even though finding a job seems impossible, and continue working on Jack Tar - which includes figuring out how to stay as connected as possible with all sides of the maritime community without deterring me from my own research regarding sailing the sloop and moving to mexico.

So rather than continue blogging about myself, I'm going to focus on Jack Tar (jacktar.org) and another blog, just for Fish & I and our trip. If you want the url for the new blog (when it's online), please email me at jacktarzine(at)gmail.com.

This blog will self destruct as of 1/1/09.

Calendar Release Party!

Nanette made these incredibly cool posters for the calendar release party happening on Sunday at the Sloop! We put them up all over Ballard last Sunday. It was COLD. My hand nearly froze solid against the cold steel of the staple gun. Later I warmed up next to Fish, the KTwins and their fun friend Joan who was visiting from ChiTown at the Sloop. They'd been hard at Arctic Bocce all day. Apparently Fish lost and now has to rebuild the fwd head on HW.

Fish and I have been living in super close quarters aboard his boat for over a month now, and it's going well. It's a good primer for being at sea for a long transit - good news - it's doubtful that we will end up killing each other! We spend most of our time watching DVD's, visiting HW, studying boat stuff like celestial nav, SSB stations, reading, working on the computer, and EATING TASTY BITES!!! In fact I'm now ordering in bulk from the Tasty Bite factory. The rice cooker is a dream - it cooks the rice and the steamer attachment cooks the sauce package.

We've toyed with the idea of creating a blog just for the boat, and offering up our epiphanies and pitfalls, like the joy of Tasty Bites, and the dismay of Seattle winters (as I'm sure everyone wants to know about). Might do that soon...

Season of the Ranch

For Nan and Bri, 2008 has been, amongst other projects, The Year of S.H. Ranch. Now that the siding is up on the heated storage unit, they can soon take a break and relax, and focus on other schemes that Nan is cooking up. Nan cooks up schemes, makes them happen, and the rest of us stand back and say "She's crazy, but she gets shit done!" and of course we get on for the ride and help out and eventually realize that she had the right idea all along. I don't question her ideas or goals any more. I figure they will work out and things will happen and I just jump in where she needs me.

Yeah Fish is a little crazy too.

Had lunch with the beautiful calendar model, Cass, the other day at the cafe "A Caprice Kitchen." We then headed over to her work, and she showed me these monstrous, supposedly PORTABLE gazebos that she'd been building for a few weeks. I was in awe of the 8"x8" supports.
